Experience More

Studying across disciplines has made me see that knowledge is everywhere and it ours to go out and use.  I have found my own potential here, and I am striving everyday to reach my goals. It is so rewarding to me that I have found a direction and have been given the tools to excel in my path.

There's More to Your Story

At the Dietrich School, there’s more to your story. Because there's more to experience. And college is the time for more: More thinking. More freedom. More ideas. More connections. More exploring. Here, college is customizable, so you can create your own story, a story with more than you ever thought possible.

Explore more independence. More friendships. More of Pittsburgh. Start mapping your path with the Dietrich School’s first-year programs. We’ll help you see how to reach your destination—and how to get the most out of the journey.

First-Year Courses

Academic Foundations is a one-credit course exclusively for incoming Dietrich School students. You'll make fast friends in small classes, and explore the campus and city. Academic Commuities allow you to take three classes—all focused on a subject that interests you—with the same small group of students. Discover more about first-year courses

Dietrich School students can conduct meaningful research in their very first year. There are many ways to get involved: First Experiences in Research, the New York or London Field Studies, independent research through one of your courses, and more... Delve into first-year research.
