The Cathedral of Learning

The Cathedral of Learning is the iconic landmark of the University of Pittsburgh. The Gothic Revival skyscraper was commissioned in 1921 and is a landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Lovingly referred to as “Cathy”, it stands at 535- feet-tall, the second-tallest educational building in the world. The Cathedral houses most of our humanities departments and programs in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences.

Frick Fine Arts Building

The Frick Fine Arts Building, modeled after a Roman villa owned by Pope Julius III, is home to the Departments of History of Art & Architecture and Studio Arts in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. It includes classrooms, art galleries, an open cloister, a quiet courtyard, and one of the nation's top fine arts libraries. Many students enjoy studying in the quiet, beautiful environment in the building, especially in the cloister where you can view reproductions of 15th-century Florentine Renaissance artworks by Russian artist Nicholas Lochoff.

Clapp Hall (Clapp, Langley, Crawford Life Sciences Complex)

Clapp Hall is one of three buildings in the Life Sciences Complex, which also includes Langley and Crawford Halls and the Life Sciences Annex. These interconnected buildings house the Department of Biological Sciences and Neuroscience, both part of the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. Clapp Hall includes classrooms, lecture halls, and teaching labs, where students get both theoretical and experiential instruction in the Natural Sciences.
